Osmo and the Artful Child

By  |

Last week my daughter Riley asked me for a toy. It wasn’t the usual doll or pony she usually asks for.

“Mom, can we get Osmo?”

I asked her how she knew about it (knowing full well I was waiting for it from Best Buy). She had seen it on a YouTube channel and was enamored by it. Later that day the delivery driver dropped it off. Osmo was in our hands and she was eager to set her iPad up to play.

With 4 downloadable apps, the Osmo TP-OSMO-01 gaming system lets your little one learn and play using your compatible Apple iPad. A camera reflector, base, words game tiles and tangram puzzle pieces are included to encourage creative thinking.

Started in 2013 by Pramod Sharma and Jerome Scholler, Tangible Play is a gaming company built around its proprietary Reflective Artificial Intelligence. It aims to create a new play (physical / digital)movement to unleash the boundaries of the screen with, Osmo. Pramod and Jerome, use not only their engineering and design experience to help build Osmo but the role as parent to young kids plays the biggest part in the creativity!

  • Arrange wooden puzzle pieces to match on-screen shapes. Animals, objects, humans and more. Play with a friend or challenge yourself to increasingly more difficult levels as your handiwork lights up with each victory.

  • Guess and spell the on-screen image. Team up or compete in-person with friends or family to see who will get their letter in first! Download free content like trivia, geography or upload your own like family names. The possibilities are endless!

  • Newton works with any object or drawing – Mom’s keys, hand-drawn basket, even toys you already own. Simply place the object/drawing in front of the screen and manipulate it to guide the falling balls into the target zones.

  • Unleash your inner artist! Pick an image from the camera, web or curated gallery and Masterpiece will transform it into easy-to-follow lines, helping you create beautiful drawings.

  • With a counting, addition, concatenation and multiplication mode, there is a challenge for everybody. As kids get more confident in one mode, they can move on the the next one, allowing them to learn at their own pace.

Riley’s favorite is Masterpiece. She loves to draw and has a great time experimenting with colors and shapes. I love that she learns a steadier hand with Masterpiece, but I am also so excited about Words and Numbers. She’s 6 years old and a great reader, so spelling is a big priority. Plus, Osmo makes it fun and not feel like work!

Osmo is available at Best Buy! Head over now to check it out and let your child learn with excitement!
