How Does My Garden Grow? No Really, I'm Asking….
So you may have seen my previous post about the time I found a snake in my garden. *shudder*
Yes, I am trying to be all granola and frugal by growing my own veggies. So far I have had NO blooms (wait, I see some on the peas!), but it’s not too late and I still have hope. I thought I would share the progress of my little babies. I currently have plants for:
- Spinach (the only one truly I have hope for)
- A small pot of mixed herbs. Honestly I have no idea what kind of herbs, I just know I can cut them and throw then into a stock pot with other ingredients and not poison myself.
The artichokes didn’t make it. The green onions are barely holding on.
I started the process of attempting to grow my own with a little-known but super easy way. I planted seeds in egg cartons. Look at me being all GREEN! All you do is cut the top off a cardboard egg carton, fill the cups with soil, and plant the seeds. I used a 9×13 pan to keep them in. The nice thing about using this pan is that it has a plastic top, so I covered the seedlings at night to keep them warm and safe. Once the plants sprouted and matured enough to where I felt they could survive I transplanted them to the ground. And now they are flourishing! Except I have an issue with bugs – I think they are cabbage worms. boo. I sprayed the plants with a mix of 1/2 gallon of water, 1 tsp Dawn dish soap, and 1 tbs rubbing alcohol after my sister swore up and down it would work. You’d better be right Shelby…
Here’s the how-to and how much my garden is flourishing. Sorta.
