Farmers Market Basket #1

By  |

I’d been contemplating for a year or so about participating in our local Farmers Market Basket program (similar to CSA programs in other parts of the country), and after hearing rave reviews from some friends this year, I decided to take the plunge.

Boy, am I glad I did! I signed up for a classic small basket but somehow it got misinterpreted and I received a classic regular. That mistake really worked in my favor. I got two grocery bags that were OVERFLOWING with produce (since I was doing a “try me free” week, I didn’t have the basket that members receive).

Gorgeous, right? This is what I got in my first share:

  • 1 bunch of lettuce
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 1 bunch of cilantro
  • 1 bag of apples
  • 1 bunch of bananas
  • 1 bag of green beans
  • 1 cantaloupe
  • 4 oranges
  • 4 kiwi
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 poblano pepper
  • 8 red potatoes
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 onion

We’ve already eaten the cantaloupe (SO GOOD!), and my daughter went through the bananas like they were going out of style. We’re still working our way through the rest of the fruit, and I’m planning on using some of the veggies today to make a salad.

Do any of you participate in CSA shares? What do you make with your goodies?
