Does Daily Steals Owe Parents and Kids an Apology?

By  |

It was brought to  my attention this morning that the deal site Daily Steals wrote a rather offensive description to their deal (a kid’s digital camera) that has their customers in an uproar. I did promote this company when they had a freebie, but honestly I am quite offended by the description:

You know what kids love?
Ah kids, everyone’s worst nightmare. They’re terrible to sit next to in pretty much any situation, be it on a bus, on a plane, in a waiting room, etc. Kids are active little creatures that lack the brain capacity to calm themselves in a manner that isn’t explosive. Therefore, the worst situation is being near a kid that does not have the option of running free like a dog or something. Come to think of it, kids are very much like dogs. If dogs had opposable thumbs they would eat like children.

The good thing about kids, however, is that most of them are so stupid that you can just give them something and they’ll be occupied for hours. Like this Disney Pix Click Digital Camera, for instance. You give a kid this and BAM, you don’t have some annoying little thing constantly bugging you to change the channel to an asinine cartoon while you’re trying to concentrate on something you legitimately enjoy. Go ahead, let it outside, let it run around … just make sure you put its collar on in case it gets lost.

As a parent myself I am appalled that a site that is trying to sell a toy would write something so derogatory and dismissive. I can understand if they are trying to be funny or witty, but they really missed the mark. Daily Steals has since changed the description to something about an enchanted land of marshmallows and licorice – which in my opinion seems a bit over the top. Almost a sarcastic response to the backlash on their Facebook page about the original post. Daily Steals has yet to apologize for the original description and offending so many people with it.

What do you think? SHOULD Daily Steals apologize for this description? Or is it all in “good fun” and are parents being too sensitive about it?

OMG!!! The first paragraph was tolerable, they were trying to be funny, but holy crap, “…most of them are so stupid that you can just give them something and they’ll be occupied for hours.” What the hell????

Heck yeah they should apologize. Its one thing if they think that personally and talk about kids that way among their friends. It’s a whole different thing when your doing it publicly on a website when advertising TOYS to PARENTS of KIDS!!! We happen to love and adore our little animals with opposable thumbs. I happen to think my 3 1/2 year old is probably a heck of a lot smarter than whatever dimwit wrote that. Also I agree the listing now is just being snarky after the rude and abusive listing before. I can say I wouldn’t take a freebie from a place like that.

That is horrible! I’m unsubscribing now. I completely agree with Cassee. Thank you for posting this since I would have not seen it otherwise. It’s good to know what kind of people I was dealing with.

Daily Steals could be giving out some of the best toys ever for FREE with FREE shipping and I wouldn’t order. Thanks so much to bringing this to my attention…I honestly have a DO NOT ORDER FROM list and they will be on that list. What a shame. Reason #…Heck I cant even keep track anymore…that we do not watch TV more than up to 1 hr a day and that we DO NOT have a computer in the house…My precious children so do not need to see such ignorant idiots like this on a screen. They are going to get enough of it in life, they don’t need screwed up just quite yet…

WOW!!! I buy their deals all the time. I WILL NOT BE PATRONIZING THEM ANY LONGER!!!

Yes they should apologize and then they should offer parents some sort of reparation for this publicity damage. I’ll be posting this too.

As a person in general I can not believe someone would say this about children. As a parent I am appaled. This is horrible. I sometimes wonder if management reads what their employees actually submit for their work. I mean how as a business owner could you think it would be ok to post this and people would still want to by your products. This has to be one of the most shocking things I have seen. I am not a patron of this particular site and after seeing this I never will be.

Well now I guess who ever wrote this never learned, if you don’t have something nice to say, SAY NOTHING. How did this person get their job! Having these feeling towards kids, don’t think I would want kids to have anything they offer. Off my email list, for sure. Thanks for posting.

Without a doubt, they should! Whoever wrote this press release probably did not enjoy his childhood. He should learn how to appreciate children because he was once a child, too.

    Thanks for sharing!

This one is bad but there are other descriptions much worse on the site for past toy deals. One talks about using a toy to kidnap kids and lock them in a basement and another where a guy promises candy to get the kids to go to a cliff. I am not sure what these little stories have to do with kids toys but they are WRONG and very disturbing!!! As a mom I do not see how anyone could think that these stories are funny to put with Kids toys. The writer has some serious issue and the company should have released an apology yesterday!!!!

I have brought this to the attention of CNN. If you’re as outraged as I am then please do the same. Here’s the link to their News Tip contact form:

There’s one past toy ad from them that REALLY made my skin craw which everyone should read:
    http://tinyurl.com/7vjqbmc

At first I didn’t understand what was meant by the phrase “I put the lotion in the basket” so I Googled it and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I learned it was from The Silence of the Lambs and was spoken by the serial child murderer of that story. I won’t share the details here, google it and see for yourself.

There is something horribly wrong at Daily Steals and I’m making it my mission to get the word out on them!

Thanks for getting the word out on this. I was just about to get my debit card out to make my first purchase from them. Debit card back in wallet. They just lost $30+ and a potential long-term relationship from this dedicated online shopper.

    Power to the mamas!
