Barbie Average? Here's How She'd Look
Artist Nickolay Lamm created an interesting new “Barbie” by using 3D imaging technology on the average 19 year old girl and this was the result:
Short. Boring. *yawn*
Sure, the realistic Barbie is pretty. But she’s also average. The whole POINT of Barbie is that she was anything you wanted her to be.
“We girls can do anything, Right Barbie” was the slogan for the blonde beauty when I was younger.
Barbie has always been a subject of controversy. With her “unrealistic physical image” she has been ripped to shreds by some who think she is a negative influence on girls.
I played with Barbies as a young girl. I collected them as a young adult and still have many. Do I think she’s a negative influence? Hardly. I think she’s a toy. Just like Superman action figures, just like Tinkerbelle dolls. It’s fantasy. Did I EVER think I should look like Barbie? Heck no. She was simply a source of imaginative play. I loved that she was an astronaut, a teacher, an aerobics instructor, and a beauty queen. I loved that she had a mountain of cool clothes – bright and over the top – along with bags and shoes to match. She had long blonde hair that stayed silky smooth. I learned to braid on a Barbie and loved practicing. But never once did I think that I should look like her.
As a parent, I am more concerned with violence in video games and mindless Spongebob babble than Barbie.
But that’s just me. I know that there are many who disagree with me.
